Project Description:

The objective is to test the hypothesis that this can lower energy use in a specific building typology. The building envelope that host these articulated surface flaps is a mostly passive and low-energy apparatus to pull moisture out of outdoor air using a benign hygroscopic brine solution that releases water when heat is applied and absorbs water as the fluid cools. The idea is that this process performs the task of dehumidification using a hygroscopic fluid. The task of the individual projects is to understand if there can be any benefits to induce air pressure driven ventilation for dehumidification and a much smaller conventional mechanical system that is only needed for air conditioning.
